Georgios Michailidis, known to his patrons as “George,” was born in Limassol, Cyprus and came to the United States in 2000. He is married to Katerina and they have a six-year old son, Xenios. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in IT from St. Francis College in Brooklyn and says that his interests in the restaurant and hospitality business won him over.
Since October of 2016, George has been the proprietor of Outback Steakhouse located in the Mayfair Shopping Center of Commack. Working alongside three other managers, George and his team are full of passion and constantly looking to better what a dining experience should be. According to manager William Esdell, “Coming out of college with 75K in debt, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Fast forward eleven years, I’m continuing on the path that made me a better person, staying true to myself so I can ultimately become a partner. I owe it to Outback for giving me the opportunity to strive higher.”
Although they are a steakhouse first, their lunch and dinner specialties also include chicken, pasta, salads and a variety of other dishes to accommodate their guests. George’s love for people and food is what drew him to the business. After leaving an upscale steakhouse, he wanted to join a company that appreciated its employees. Outback offered him everything he had ever dreamed of and more. As for manager, Tracey DePauw, she began working as a server after graduating high school and continued while studying psychology at SUNY Old Westbury. Her career with Outback began in 2015 when she was approached and asked about her interest in becoming a manager, then was soon promoted within. “One thing I love about Outback is the ability to connect with people, watch families grow and build relationships.”
James Johansson, also manager, was born and raised in Las Vegas Nevada. It wasn’t until his family moved to Georgia, that he got his first job as a bus boy where he learned the culture of Outback Steakhouse. Having worked a few years at two different Outback’s in Atlanta, on his big move to New York he worked for another two, then landed in Commack at Outback number five. “I have grown so much from each of my experiences that Outback has helped facilitate and I am humbled and grateful to work for such a genuine, understanding and caring man like George.” At Outback, they serve lunch and dinner seven days a week and offer delivery every day after 4pm. Their specialties include “Walkabout Wednesday” where you can choose from a 6 oz. Center Cut Sirloin or an 8 oz. Grilled Chicken on the Barbie, which includes Domestic Draft Beer or Soda all for only $10.99. Or, you can create your own Lunch Combo starting at $8.99! For Georgio, his promise is that he and his dedicated team will have you feeling welcome from the minute you walk through the door. “I believe we need to treat our guest the same way you treat someone the first time they come in your house,” says George. It is no surprise that George’s customers have remarked on his teams amazing personality and warm hospitality. Not only are they busy making Outback an enjoyable venue for dining, but they are also active in the Commack school district and have made many donations to various charities.
At Outback, their mission is to make Outback in Commack your favorite place to drink, eat and be with friends. There is something for everyone and you will leave feeling satisfied by the food and the service. They offer on/off premises catering for pickup or delivery as well.
