A Sweet Start to Mother’s Day

Some of the most meaningful traditions come from the quiet moments that stay with us long after they pass. For me, those moments often begin in the kitchen, where my mom, Stephanie, made even the simplest mornings feel special. She is not only my mom, but my best friend and my world, and everything she does is filled with a kind of love that makes a house feel like home.

Whether it was a quick breakfast before a busy day or a slow morning spent together, there was always something comforting about being around her. It was never just about the food, but the feeling she created. Warm, effortless, and full of love.

This French Toast Casserole is inspired by that same feeling. It is simple, thoughtful, and meant to be shared. Prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning, it allows for what matters most on Mother’s Day, spending time together, laughing, and appreciating the little moments that mean everything.

With its soft center and golden, cinnamon sweet topping, this dish brings comfort to the table and turns an ordinary morning into something memorable. Just like she always has.

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cut into cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Topping:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

THIS IS WHAT YOU DO

  1. Grease a 9×13 baking dish and add the cubed bread evenly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Pour the mixture over the bread, pressing gently so all pieces soak. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 4 hours).
  4. In a separate bowl, mix topping ingredients and cut in butter until crumbly. Store in the fridge overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F. Remove casserole from fridge and sprinkle topping evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
  7. Let cool slightly, then serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.
