This is a busy time of year for buyers and sellers and the number of homes on the market is very limited.  Typically, most buyers begin their home search online and choose to drive by a listed home before ever making an appointment to see it. So now more than ever, curb appeal is so important. I put together some tips that I give to my clients to enhance their curb appeal and help make their home more attractive to buyers.

1) Front Doors – Front doors are a main focal point, so to spruce things up consider a fresh coat of paint. Navy blue is a big color for front doors this year- but please pick a color that compliments your home’s shutters and siding.

2) New Mailbox – If your current mailbox has seen better days, it may be time to invest in a new one. There are inexpensive ones available to liven up the area and try to plant some flowers or plants around the base.

3) Flower Boxes – Flower boxes come in a variety of styles and can add a fresh look to your home’s exterior. You can plant some colorful flowers inside it and I’ve even seen people put some pretty artificial ones in there as well.

4) Clean Up Walkways – Remove sticks and debris from your front walkway (and back patio too) and any dirt that may have collected on it.

5) New House Numbers – This is a quick and easy fix and often quite inexpensive. Your house numbers can fade or can get loose and fall down. New numbers are bright and easy to read and add a special touch.

6) Front Exterior Lights – Updating your front exterior lights and changing the bulbs can brighten up your front yard and your home. There are so many styles to choose from at your local home improvement store.

7) Power Wash – This past winter was brutal and with all the rain and storms, your home’s exterior has probably gotten quite dirty. Power washing can make a world of difference on your siding, brickwork, furniture and windows.

8) New Garage Door – If paint can no longer help your garage door, it may be time for a new one. Big dents and cracks aren’t attractive and a door can give you a major makeover.

9) Reseal/Repair Driveway – I don’t how it happened, but this winter did a number on my driveway. Cracks came out of everywhere. If you don’t get them repaired, the cracks can start to break up and cause huge holes in your driveway, so sealing and repairing cracks can go a long way.

10) Clean Beds/New Mulch – Mulch and clean beds make a huge difference in the property’s appearance. It gives a clean, uniform look and covers the dirt.

11) Walk Way Lights – Lighting up your walkway has gotten much easier to do with the solar versions. Just open the box, pull them out and place them in the ground where you need them.

12) Roof Cleaning – Clean the streaks! There are some great solutions that can be sprayed on your roof to remove black and green marks. This can really give it a fresh look!

We are all excited to finally get back outside and spruce up our yard and our home.  Just take a walk around your home and see what needs a little attention before you put your home on the market.
