With September closing in and autumn weather just around the corner, it is time to convert your summer wardrobe into a fall one. There are some steps you must take to effectively transition your closet.

Evaluate.

Look at all your clothing and ask yourself a few questions. Did you wear this piece a lot? Did you like it? Did you feel comfortable in it? How has it held up?

An unfortunate truth about many shoppers is that they buy pieces because it looks cute on the rack; it was trendy this season, but next summer everyone will turn their nose at it. Or maybe you bought that skirt and wore it once, because it was really uncomfortable. Perhaps those shorts were really nice, and only five dollars! But they have completely disintegrated.

Buy garments you genuinely like and will enjoy wearing. Make sure the attire you own is comfortable and of good quality. Pay a little extra for a pair of shorts you love so you can wear them for more than one summer. Save up and shop during a sale. Do not buy poorly made shorts, trendy tops, and maybe-I-will-wear-it-one-day-dresses. Buy clothing you are excited about and will wear.

Make smarter shopping choices this season.

Blend.

As you begin the transition, you will realize that the weather does not go from boiling hot to freezing cold. So before you switch out every pair of shorts for fleece lined leggings, you have to dress for the in between temperatures.

You can wear a sundress with a cute jean jacket, pair of booties, and chunky jewelry for a perfect transition outfit. Throw on a light sweater with a pair of shorts for a comfortable combo. Leggings– fleece lined or not–paired a simple tee-shirt and sneakers is always simply stylish.

Blend away the two seasons even more, give your hair a soft curl and slide on some thin rings.

Makeup is another great way to blur the seasons together. Soft brown and rich gold eyeshadows, prominent natural eyebrows, rosy lips and dewy skin is the perfect in between makeup look. Playful, yet elegant is the perfect summer meets autumn look.

Organize.

As you start to bring down your fall boxes and buy new pieces, make sure everything is put away nice and neat.

Gut your closet. Clean out all the summer apparel, pack them away and grab some cleaner. Vacuum the floor of your closet, clean your hangers, and get rid of any dust. Hang up dresses, long cardigans, and wrinkle prone fabrics. Sort your items by occasion, color, or clothing piece. Line your boots, booties, heels and sneakers up neatly and put any overhead boxes or items away. Going into the autumn season with your closet tidy and well-organized will make outfit planning fun and easy.

Summer and fall come together every year, so your outfits should as well. Blending the looks will transition you smoothly into full time fall.
