In the heart of Commack, a bagel shop isn’t just serving up breakfast—it’s serving up community, love, and a whole lot of heart. Meet Rose and Jay, the husband-and-wife duo behind Mayfair Bagels, where every sandwich is crafted like it’s made for family—and often, it is.

Rose and Jay’s journey started long before their first bagel rolled out of the oven. “It’s been 15 years,” Rose recalls. “We were doing different things—ice cream, food, my husband had a gas station—but we wanted to work together, to build something we both love.” That passion led them to open a brand-new bagel store from the ground up—new equipment, new space, and a whole new vision.

What makes Mayfair Bagels so special? According to Rose, “Every single order is made with love. I make it like I would for my kids. If it’s not perfect, it doesn’t go out.” That personal standard shines through in the shop’s atmosphere—customers call her “my girl,” and employees blow kisses on their way out. “It’s like one big family,” Rose says with a smile.

Their dedication doesn’t stop at the counter. Bagels are made fresh every two hours—never served the next day. Leftovers? They’re donated to local churches and homeless communities. “It’s not just about money,” says Rose. “If I can make a living doing what I love and make others happy, that’s enough.”

You’ll find her here most mornings after dropping her daughter off at school. “I’m a mom first,” she laughs, “but this is home too.” With three kids of their own, Rose and Jay have created a second home for many. Their employees feel it too—one even comes in after her shift just to help out. “We don’t just work together. We care for each other.”

Their future plans? “We want to expand grab-and-go hot meals,” Rose shares. “Healthy, quick options people can trust. No wait, just good food.” And while their menu keeps evolving, their commitment to quality never wavers. “Every bagel must be the same size. Every salad checked daily. Cleanliness and consistency—those are our rules.”

As the business has grown, so has the brand. Originally known as Bagel Toasterie, the name has since changed to Mayfair Bagels to reflect their expansion and vision of becoming a franchise. Same owners, same mission—just a name that better fits their future.

The pride in their work is matched by their pride in the community. They know customers by name. They deliver personally when something’s not right. And they never stop giving back—especially to local teachers and healthcare workers. “Those are the real celebrities,” Rose says. “They care for our children. They deserve the best.”

Asked what sets them apart, Rose doesn’t hesitate: “We treat everyone equally. With kindness. That’s the key.”

So next time you stop by Mayfair Bagels, don’t be surprised if you’re greeted with a smile, remembered by name, or even handed an extra cookie. That’s just Rose and Jay doing what they love, spreading joy, one bagel at a time.
