In all my years of working with local businesses, I have never come across one that has put others before themselves. Owner Stacey Wohl, mom of two children with Autism was inspired to start a non-profit organization and a business that serves the public incredible roasted coffees and great food, while also giving those with disabilities the opportunity to become productive people in society.
Stacey closed down Cause café for a while, so that she could restructure and emerge with something new and different. On October 17th, there was a special ribbon cutting, whereby Ms. Wohl had the opportunity have her guests sample her all new Tropical Fusion cuisine, while also recognizing the importance of giving children with disabilities opportunities to contribute to society. Their new menu has a Tropical Fusion influence, that offers a twist on Caribbean dishes, while using locally grown produce whenever possible. Cause features a variety of salads and tacos as well. Try their Cuban sandwich with Yucca fries. Absolutely delish!
The Cause Café team is made up several young adults with a variety of cognitive disabilities, including Stacey’s children Brittney and Logan. As Stacey Wohl explains, “we hire young adults with disabilities for jobs that they normally wouldn’t get the opportunity of working. Cause Café now offers an extensive wine and beer menu, highlighting local companies Bedell and Sand City. They have a variety of Sangria’s too like their Pink Grapefruit and Pineapple Peach. Cause also offers Mimosa’s Flights as well, using Sparkling Pointe champagne, from the North Fork. Beer and wine flights are also available at Cause Café.
From what Stacey Wohl tells us, “the kids are going to be working during the day. Night time dining will have more of a hipper vibe, with a staff from our other restaurant.” They’ll also be featuring live music on the weekend!
Cause Café recognizes the men and women who have served our country by offering all veterans and their employees at the VA Hospital a 15% discount!
Cause Café is a full-service restaurant, offering a variety of lunch and dinner items. Weekends feature evening music and brunch too! Take out is also available all day long.
