Warm lighting, cozy charm, inviting interior with blended historical touches explain why Harbor House American Kitchen has become a beloved centerpiece in the quaint village of Northport.
Owner Kevin LaPrelle wanted to deliver to his patrons a chef-inspired menu that captures all the notes of a seafaring town that attracts a broad range of diners. As you enter the space, you’ll find memorabilia reminding you of the rich past of this quintessential North Shore village. Outdoor dining is also available in season with outdoor heaters during the cooler months.
The menu at Harbor House boasts a lineup of fresh, modern seafood complemented by New American Kitchen influences. This was my first visit to Harbor House, so to say the least I was kind of excited to share with you my experience.
Starters included Crispy Calamari: Delicately hand-breaded calamari, fried to a light golden crisp, served with marinara. The dipping sauce cuts perfectly through the richness, balancing freshness with a subtle tang. With that came the Ahi Tuna Poke: Pristine cubes of marinated raw ahi tuna paired with creamy avocado and sun-ripened mango, finished with a delicate sesame-soy infusion and a whisper of wasabi aioli. A vibrant balance of freshness, richness, and subtle heat. We couldn’t resist going in for a third app: Saffron Rice Balls: Two hand-rolled beauties crisped to perfection. Bathing in a silky vodka sauce these bite-sized indulgences stuffed with warm mozzarella strike the perfect balance of comfort and elegance.
As much as I wanted the popular Pork Chop Milanese, it was late so I thought I’d go a little bit of a lighter selection. No disappointment in going for the Ahi Tuna: Perfectly seared, sushi-grade ahi tuna, delicately finished for a tender rare center, finished with a fragrant orange-ginger soy reduction and a touch of wasabi for balanced heat. Served atop velvety mashed potatoes and complemented by crisp Mediterranean snow peas for a vibrant, seasonal finish.
On special this evening was a Seared Halibut Filet – A bright and colorful dish dressed with a silken lemon–butter sauce, accented with briny capers, sweet cherry tomatoes, and tender broccoli for a vibrant, elegant finish. A delicate yet firm fish was sensational.
For lighter options, choose a soup and salad like their Harbor House clam chowder. Pair this with several different gourmet salad creations; add on chicken, shrimp, or steak and you’re good to go.
Overall, Harbor House goes well beyond the plate. Mr. LaPrelle creates an experience shaped by warm hospitality, coastal charm, and a true appreciation for fresh, thoughtfully prepared cuisine. Nostalgic ambience, attentive service, with artfully presented dishes reflect a commitment to excellence in refined classics and modern touches that is both upscale and approachable, all set in the alluring community of Northport.
