Ah…the start of spring! Before long we’ll be seeing fresh buds on the bushes, trees, and flowers beginning to push their way through soil.

Spring represents newness. Just as we spring forward with our clocks for Daylight Savings Time, we want to spring forward into the newness of life itself.  Springing forward means embracing the new. This is usually far from easy. We all have a tendency to resist changes. New ideas, new plans, new people, new endeavors, can unsettle us.  We tend to veer toward clinging to the old, to the present.

I – perhaps like you used to cling to people and circumstances. For example, if a friend moved to another state, if a patient left, I’d pine. I’d pine either slightly or greatly, depending on the persons and circumstances. I finally had to face the inevitable, which is that circumstances, things and people do change. Friendships might end, people will leave, change positions, exit our lives. We might have no choice but to leave our job positions.

I soon was able to relax, knowing that something equally good or even better had taken their place or was about to. First it was necessary for me to be free of mind in order to recognize and to relish the goodness of the new. Just as the seasons represent change, so must there be changes in our inner and outer circumstances, as that is the nature of life itself.  We need to practice present moment awareness, for if we stay stuck in the past, we will not recognize our new good when it arrives.

Some things should remain the same or be added if not already in our lives. Questions to ask others or ourselves:
“How can I help you?”
“How can I be a better friend, wife, husband, parent?”
“What good can I put into this situation, into the world?

Now is the time to get in touch with your heart’s desires.  What are your unfulfilled dreams? Make a list to keep beside your bed, and before you go to sleep each night. If things don’t seem to go your way, trust that the Universe will fulfill those desires or bring you something even greater. Today I read some testimonial statements from winners of the Publishers Clearing House million dollar prizes. While each had something different to say, they all had one statement in common. ”I just knew I’d win this.” That is having absolute faith in the good & new to arrive. While very few people are capable of this degree of faith, all are capable of striving toward it. Yes, it is spring, the dark days of winter are over for now, and hope springs eternal. Embrace spring. Make room for Newness. I know you will, I believe in you!
