It’s often been said that every day is Mothers Day.  Yet having raised two sons, I am of the belief that our mother’s deserve at least one day of being honored.  I lost my beloved mother nearly two years ago and to cope with that loss, I have found several ways to honor her.  And for those of you whose mother’s are still in your lives, these ideas, I believe, will bring her much joy and satisfaction.

• Put together fond family pictures into a photo book that spans the years and decades.  There is nothing better than flipping through the pages so she can reminisce about milestone events, birthdays, and holidays that she, her children, and family celebrated.  Visit www.snapfish.com  or www.shutterfly.com to create a special book for her.  You can add your own text and designs to make it even more special.

• Create a vision board that includes your mom.  I started a vision board using oaktag paper—a collage of intentions, dreams, and goals in your personal life and career—a couple of  years ago and recently updated it with photos of me and my mom when I was a teenager and as an adult when we were at a special family event.  You can use pictures and sayings or words from magazines that “speak to you” in a way that will help you to realize your goals.  Frame it and place it on a wall that you will look at every day.

• Create a puja table (Hindu, prayer or ritual to honor someone) for your loved one.  When I lost my mom, I gathered pictures and fond objects that she loved and reminded me of her and put them on a small antique table she had given to me.  On the table rests a cardinal, a dolphin, pictures of her through the decades, and a small vase that I fill with flowers for her every week.

• Make a homemade brunch or dinner.  Who doesn’t enjoy a home-cooked meal, especially a hard-working mom?  And nothing tastes better than when it’s made with love.  Let your children decorate the table with crafts they’ve made at school and pictures made with homemade frames.

However you choose to celebrate your mom this Mother’s Day, no matter if she is near or far, remember to honor her with a special creation made just for her. Happy Mother’s Day to all you wonderful moms out there!
