Christine A. Guarino, RDH, CMF, CFM, founder of A World of Pink, is taking breast aftercare to new heights. “As someone who has been in the healthcare field for over 25 years as a dental hygienist, I have seen what women go through when fighting their battle with breast cancer. The idea for A World of Pink came to me when I discovered the drastically high number of cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed every year—especially here on Long Island—and asking myself When these women are done with their surgery and treatment, what then? That was when I started researching aftercare and discovered that there simply was none, until now.” In just over two years, Christine has successfully launched two locations, partnered with esteemed doctors and healthcare professionals. She began working in tandem with many area hospitals and the Stony Brook Cancer Center.
A World of Pink is a healthcare facility specializing in bra and prosthesis fittings for women who have undergone breast surgery. They’re offering prosthesis for the closest match to patient’s skin tone, revolutionizing silicon filler for all women, and changing breast aftercare one fitting at a time.
Beautiful Brassieres is A World of Pink’s charity event that supports, A World of Pink Foundation, Stony Brook Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, and Remember Betty. Incredible bra art created by survivors, advocates, doctors, and generous sponsors have really tapped into their creative juices with stunning pieces.
From the moment upon entering the venue, the energy was intoxicating. The red carpet led me into a stunning room with more than a view, but rather a space filled with hope and promise. Beautifully trimmed with love and passion, every bra told its own story. Each gracious, sporty, flirty or whimsical bra was auctioned off with nail-biting excitement. Ralph Macchio, New York Jet: Erik Coleman, Victoria’s Secret model: Lindsay Ellingson, TV host: Donna Drake, were just a few of the incredible sponsors of these ornamental bras. The other guests and patients created artwork out of the brassieres that inspired all and raised fifteen thousand dollars. Volunteers from the Stony Brook Seawolves basketball team even extended a lending hand throughout the evening.
Christine’s mission statement: “My dream of changing breast after care forever, helping women feel beautiful, confident and balanced following all types of breast surgery.” Furthermore, “We work based on appointment and bill most insurance companies, and our 501(c)(3) organization, A World of Pink Foundation, is dedicated to providing women who cannot afford their items or who do not have insurance with neccessary aftercare resources.”
The progress this has made for aftercare and how vastly important it is to have this conversation with our daughters, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, girlfriends, and together we will support and lift. There is now a beautiful safe place to land, A World of Pink.
